A sunny California day and the Prado Olympic Shooting Park offered the perfect setting for the first ever Prado Running Gun USPSA/IPSC match.  We had the pleasure of attending this event, which is a welcome sight in the ever difficult lanscape of shooting in California.  We were very impressed with the organization, enthusiam and professionalism of the Prado Running Gun staff.

TurnoutTurnout is always a big concern when a new match starts, but we're happy to report that the turnout for this match did not dissapoint.  Over eighty shooters came from all over Southern California to take part and support this new program.  Shooters came from as far south as San Diego.  The match also saw several prominent shooters in attendance including World Champion Jojo Vidanes, USPSA President Michael Voight, and Champion Shooter Taran Butler.

Prado Olympic Shooting Park provided a perfect facility for this match.  Originally built to house the shooting events in the The Phone Booth1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics, it has remained in use as a first class shooting facility catering to shotgun, rifle and handgun owners.  PRG utilized the large rifle and handgun ranges for the match and we especially liked the ample shade and seating available to shooters while waiting for their turn to shoot.  The stages were challenging, yet fun, and utilized many props including doors and even a phone booth.  If there's one thing the PRG staff knows how to do, it's how to make a stage that challenges the shooters skill.  And with six stages per match, you're bound to find something thing to push you to the limit.

LunchThe thing we love about Prado Running Gun is the family friendly atmosphere.  Not only is it a USPSA match, it's also an opportunity for families to gather and enjoy the sport.  Each participant was treated to a barbecue lunch in the middle of the day which offered the perfect opportunity to sit down and get to know other shooters and their families and participate in our every favorite activity of bench shooting.  Prado Running Gun is also perfect for the first time IPSC shooter.  We tagged along for a little bit with the beginner squad and watched as they were expertly instructed through their first match.  Every shooter got the attention and help that they needed.

With one successful match under their belt, the sky is the limit for Prado Running Gun.  Matches are held on the second Sunday of each month at the Prado Olympic Shooting Park and we look forward to attending the next match and the many future events being planned.  Many thanks go out to PRG staff members Allan, Hiro, Edrick, Toni and everyone else we forgot to mention.  And thanks to Chad Carlson, the owner of the Prado Olympic Shooting Park.  We wish all of them the best of luck in the future.
